Besides the academic platform, we include non-academic subjects and activities as a vital part of our curriculum. We strongly believe that these extra-curricular activities play a crucial role to enable our students to develop into strong, confident and all-rounded citizens. The children are encouraged to play, explore, discover and communicate through Dance, Art and Craft and Physical Education. It initiates imaginative, intellectual and aesthetic concepts within young children.
Swimming, Skating, Yoga, Karate and Western dance are also taught to the children to train them to be multitalented. This makes the children curious to learn different activities and expands their interests.
While it’s so much fun for children to learn these extracurricular activities, they are very excited when they master the thing they think they cannot do. This develops their determination and perseverance.
Our Swimming school at Sembakkam provides an excellent opportunity for the children to learn swimming and encourage them to swim regularly. Swimming develops the physical health and the emotional health of the children. It improves strength and flexibility and increases stamina. In addition, swimming is a way to prevent childhood obesity and most importantly they acquire the life skill about being safe in and around water.
To help the children get away from the fear of water, they are trained for “continuous 20 days in the swimming pool which helps them to get accustomed to water”. There would be regular classes after that, which we are sure each child would look forward and enjoy.
Children at young age love to learn new things. Keeping this in mind, our school provides opportunity for all the students to learn skating right from Grade-1. Skating works nearly every muscle group in the body and gliding synchronizes the movement of their legs. Like any workout, skating is good for their health, but it is fun too!!! Every year, “Skating Mela” is conducted as a celebration for 20 days to create interest and confidence of the children in skating.
Yoga helps children to relax, improve emotional regulation, sleep better, and relieve anxiety if any. Yoga helps to improve memory and cognitive function by creating focus within. When kids practice yoga, they are essentially practicing their “ability to focus” on the task at hand. In their day-to-day lives, this turns into better focus and cognitive functioning.
Self – defence not only allows children to tangibly defend themselves against physical attacks, it also sparks various benefits to them in everyday life. Children at M.A.V.International School learn that Karate is more a defensive and not an offensive martial art!!
Karate is taught to the kids right “from the age of 5” at school. At this age, they are in their best of learning, developing and functioning. In karate training, kids learn punctuality, respect to partners and also opponents, to practice hard, to live a healthy lifestyle, once kids get these habits, they have them forever.
Western Dance is taught to the children from the age of 3. Dance in this age, helps the children to learn the basic loco motor movements which includes walking, running, galloping, jumping, hopping, skipping, sliding, leaping happily and gains control over balance of the body, being mindful of personal space, general space, while they dance.
